Art Is A Wonderful Present To Buy For Christmas

on Dec 22 by

As the days until Christmas grow shorter, you have found that you bought presents for the people who are easy to shop for: your brother, who likes any video game that comes out; your niece, who likes anything as long as its pink; the love of your life, who has dropped hints for something important over the past few months. But what about those who seem to have everything they need, people like your parents or your grandparents. It can be so hard to shop for such self-satisfied people. Have you considered buying art?

Art is a great gift for people who will only add the latest grease-free hamburger grill to the growing pile of unnecessary gifts sitting in the garage waiting for the next garage sale.

Art is a greatly appreciated object that says a lot about the respect you feel towards those people. While many Christmas gifts can seem thoughtful at the time, you will find that the expiration date on that thoughtfulness ended much more quickly than you had planned. Unlike other gifts, art lasts. Art reflects taste in a way that a talking bass could never do. It also speaks of the respect you can show someone, whether it is simply a sports print, a wildlife photograph or a fine art painting.

The real trick is simply to make the effort.

So where do you buy art? Maybe you know someone. That helps greatly. But if you don’t, here’s a few suggestions. For fine art, a trip to a local art gallery can help. But the gallery may represent only a handful of artists, so you may want to talk to the local art museum or even the art department at the local college to find local artists. Of course, what you can afford will define what artist you may want to deal with. The prices for gallery art can be high, but not always. On the other hand, a teacher at a local college or high school may be able to steer you towards someone much less expensive. Another recourse is to seek out local art organizations. If you don’t know who they are, check the internet or ask any of the people I just mentioned. And you can always spend your time doing searches online.
The same can be said for photography and prints, as well as other fine art forms.

There are also artists who cater to more commercial tastes, whether it is prints of local sports teams or images from local history. Again, visit a local frame shop or sports store. Also check online or ask people who are knowledgeable.

Hurry up, the days are dwindling fast.
